Rita was my first malamute at all. That was Rita for whom I went like a young girl mad on malamutes. We brought home 4 month old curious malamute teenager. I spent lot of time with Rita and horses. I was riding long hours in nature while she run around us and enjoyed the movement. She loved horses, as well as me. Even in old age, when she saw horses she was totally excited. She always dug them gently in their belly and our horses already knew her and let her to make it. It was her way how to say them “hello”. She was a typical malamute, friendly towards people and hunter from the nature. I wouldn´t count all hens that she went secretly steal to the neighbors. Although our hens were o.k. for her, she didn´t kill them! She never became a champion but today I appreciate her nice dark pigment, full teeth, scissor bite and really very nice movement. Unfortunately, she never had puppies. We tried to breed her, but she suffered from pyometra, and so I have decided to spay her in her 5 years. Probably, due to this all she remained as nice in body building like in her young years. Even though, it is said the malamutes are not dogs of one guy and changes are no problem for them, so it was not true about her. I got married and we moved on 2 km away. Every day, she escaped returned back to our home. Later also started hard fights between Rita and younger Annie, so I decided to leave her at my mom place – where she was used to live from her youth, where she knew all, where she escaped back and where she had a large garden. She lived there last four years and I don´t know if my mom more loved Rita or Rita more loved my mom. Lifetime got to Rita nearly 14 wonderful years. Anyway, her exit was really very hard for us. Big thanks to my mom who took great care about her in her last days. Rita fought almost 14 days with the apoplexy. She was very brave and smart, when her illness went to be worse and worse, I decided for euthanasia. Believe that it is really very hard decision, even if your dog is very old and sick. I remembered words of dog´s prayer, „When my time is filled, don´t keep me in throes. If it is necessary, finish time of my affliction. Just please, stay in this moment with me..“ Rita died at home in my arms and she sleeps on her garden under the tree, where she loved to lie. I will never forget you…
